Orion XS 12/12-70A DC-DC battery charger

Orion XS 12/12-70A DC-DC Battery Charger
The Victron Energy Orion XS 12/12-70A provides controlled charging for a 12V service battery from a 12V alternator and starter-battery system. With adjustable current up to 70A, it is a compact solution for RVs, commercial vehicles, and protected marine installations. Its programmable charging settings help accommodate different battery types and alternators.

Key Features:

• Adaptive Multi-Stage Charging:
Configurable charging profiles support lead-acid and lithium batteries. Adaptive absorption adjusts charging time for lead-acid batteries; lithium settings can be configured to the battery manufacturer's requirements.

• Smart Alternator Compatibility:
Engine shutdown detection and adjustable input-voltage lockout help prevent excessive discharge of the starter battery when the engine is not running.

• Precise and Adjustable Charging Current:
Set input and output current limits from 1 to 70A through VictronConnect, with 0.1A adjustment steps to suit the installation.

• Integrated Protections:
Includes overload, short-circuit, and over-temperature protection. Configurable lithium low-temperature cutoff requires battery-temperature data from a compatible external device; when a BMS controls charging, its protections apply.

• Versatile Connectivity and Control:
Use built-in Bluetooth and VictronConnect for setup and monitoring. VE.Smart Networking supports remote battery sensing, while VE.Direct enables connection to a compatible GX device for DVCC and remote VRM monitoring. Remote VRM access requires an internet-connected GX device.

• Active Cooling and Dry-Location Installation:
Two low-noise fans provide active cooling. The complete 70A unit is rated IP20, not IP65, and must be installed indoors in a dry location with adequate airflow. It is not waterproof.

• Expandable and Customizable:
Multiple units can operate in parallel for greater charging capacity. The Orion XS can also function as an adjustable DC power supply.

Specifications Snapshot:

• Input voltage range: 9-17V
• Adjustable output voltage: 10-17V
• Input and output current setting range: 1-70A
• Nominal continuous output: 1000W at 14.3V, up to 40°C with adequate cooling
• Maximum efficiency: 98.5%
